Blogging to me.
Never have I been one to blog… or at least in the sense that I think about blogging. To me, blogging is an online journal of sorts, written by word maestros. They are composed of seemingly insignificant moments in life, anecdotes from the average day, but written in such a way that the posts are entertaining for a number of followers. Wordpress, Tumblr, and many other traditional blogging sites are readily available on the internet, but what about Facebook and Twitter? Are they a form of blogging as well?
After reading an article by Ryan Singel (http://www.wired.com/epicenter/2010/12/long-live-blogging/) about present day blogging, I started to think. He wrote that “there’s no real way to define blogging, other than from a simple technical perspective: Any web publication that publishes information easily in reverse chronological order is a blog”. I found this interesting. However, I don’t necessarily agree.
I see where he’s coming from, but to me, Facebook and Twitter are more so extensions of blogging, not a blog in themselves. Sure, they are both updates about peoples lives, but neither typically go into any sort of detail. I see blogs as a much more personal outlet, and Facebook as more of a social engagement.
Just my opinion.
